Spitfire Vb, BL988, EB-C, was the personal aircraft of the Officer Commanding A Flight, Czech Flt Lt Karel ‘Šůdl’ Vykoukal. Whilst flying this aircraft, he claimed a damaged Fw 190 on the ground at Abbeville airfield on 3 May 1942 and a shared destroyed Fw 190 over Le Havre the following day. He was shot down by Flak and killed in this aircraft during an attack on E-Boats in the Seine Estuary on 21 May 1942. Vykoukal was the only Czech pilot to serve on 41 Squadron during World War II.
