No 322 (Dutch) Squadron RAF, 1944

“June 29th, 1944: While patrolling Dungeness to Falkstone at 22.10 hours F/sgt de Vries was vectored on to Diver crossing 1 mile south of Folkstone. Attacked line astern range 2000 yards closing to 100 yards and Diver exploded in the air between Ashford and Mersham. During the attack the Spitfire was hit by flak in the starboard wing, engine cowling and fuselage. Starboard aileron also shot off. Pilot landed safely at Kingsnorth.”
