Spitfire Vb, W3852, EB-W, “Peggy”, was the personal aircraft Wilfred ‘Bill’ Palmer DFM, who named his Spitfire in honour of his wife. He was promoted from Sergeant Pilot to Acting Flight Lieutenant and OC B Flight within two months in late 1941, but was shot down in this aircraft over St. Omer on 12 April 1942, and became a Prisoner of War.
