Spitfire PT989

Registered as G-CWIX on 16th December 2022 by Greg Davis

Spitfire PT989 was built at the Castle Bromwich Aircraft Factory in August 1944
before being shipped to Murmansk via No. 33 and No. 52 Maintenance Units. She arrived
at the Kola Peninsula on 30th October 1944 and was delivered to the No. 767 Fighter Aviation
Regiment of the Murmansk Air Defence Force. On 18th May 1945 her pilot crashed her into
Spitfire PT879 causing both aircrafts’ pilots to bail out, fortunately successfully.
