on 12 June 1966 to achieve the first F-8 Crusader
aerial victory by shooting down a North Vietnamese MiG-17 “Fresco”
and by Lieutenant (junior grade) Philip “Phil” V. Vampatella to
shoot down another MiG-17 on 21 June 1966.
